The Fourth of July By: Jerrod Foust
Nothing but trees, we are on our way up north. We go to Necedah every year for The Fourth of July. It takes about two and a half hours to get up there. Once we arrive in Necedah we have to unpack all of our luggage, food, and toys. Sometimes it takes a long time to unpack because either my brother or I bring a friend with us. When we are done unpacking we go in back and Tim is there with his kids talking and having fun. Sometimes we have a mini soccer game with the family. After the soccer game, if we have one, then we put up the tents. For the rest of the day we mess around and have fun. The next day we usually go to the lake. The lake is always crowded. All the kids play football in the lake and play tag and swim. The adults just make the food and lay on the beach. Later on we go fishing in a different area, but I never catch anything. We grill out for awhile. There is usually hotdogs and hamburgers, chips, fruit salad, shrimp salad, and soda. That meal is very filling. After we eat we go home. Collin, Stephan, Kelly, Alan, and I take turns riding the mini bike. The next two days we just play, watch TV, and mess around with each other. On the day of the party, that is when a lot of people that I don’t know come, and everybody sits around a huge camp fire. Each party for The Fourth of July has a theme, like Halloween, Irish, and Christmas. You get to dress up like the theme. The people that host the party are Wally and Linda. While the adults sit, talk, and laugh, the kids are on the play set, talking, playing tag, and are playing other games. Later on in the party all the food comes out. The theme depends on what kind of food there will be, like for Halloween, there might be rat stew, but it is just chicken soup with a different name. There is usually chicken, punch, cupcakes, fruit salad, shrimp salad, ribs, corn bread, and ham. When everybody is done eating there are games. There are games for adults and for kids. One year we had a hillbilly theme. The adults played horse shoes, but they used toilet seats in stead of horse shoes. Kids played a slingshot game were you have a slingshot and you had to hit the cup, the pie pan, or the jar. Each one had different points. The pie pan counted has one point, the jar counted as two points, and the cup counted as three points. The kids got a prize if they won or if they participated, so if you’re a kid you get a prize no matter what if you play. After the games my mom says, “Good job Jerrod!” then I go back to her and I say, “Thank you.” After the games, people vote for a new theme for next year. Sometimes after the party, we light off fire works, fire crackers and roman candles. The fire works were as bright as the shining sun in the middle of the day. When the day is over we go back to the trailer. My brother and I have to sleep in a tent. The tent is pretty big and comfy. The bad thing about the tents is that when it rains the tent falls over and gets flooded. So if it rains we sleep in the trailer. The next day we pack up all of our things, put it all in the car, and head home, but before we leave my mom yells out, “Make sure you’re not forgetting any thing!” Usually on the way back home we stop at the gas station and get a hotdog. We can watch movies on the way home because we have a DVD player in the car. When we get home we unpack all of our things, and put everything away. Now since everything is unpacked, it is time to relax. For example, in Central you have to change class rooms every hour, and you have to fit all of your school supplies that you need into a locker. You have to remember your combination for you locker to. One great thing is that you will have more choices for lunch. There is a pizza bar and a salad bar. There is also a main choice. Instead of getting a detention right away in Central you get merits, if you get to many merits, you will get a detention. When you go from Fifth grade to sixth grade you aren’t at the top of you school any more you are at the low part of school because you aren’t the highest grade you are the lowest grade in the school. In Lincoln you are with the same people everyday and have more parties for holidays. You also have a lot more assemblies and Lincoln ends earlier then central. In elementary school, you have more recess and use a desk. When you go some where you have to line up before you can go. You only have three choices for lunch at Lincoln and those choices are a main entre, a salad, or a sandwich. Both schools have the same Vacation dates and the same types of sports. The most important thing that both schools have is that you will still learn.
